| | | Noises in the night - what were they? In recent nights, I have been woken on several occasions at about 2am by loud squealing screeching noises going on. It's not a rabbit because I've heard those before on numerous occasions after being caught by foxes. Last night it went on for over an hour and I had to shut my window to get some sleep. I don't think it's foxes either although we did have a few nights a while back when a vixen thought it was a good idea to call under my window and very nearly got a shoe thrown at her for good measure.
What else could it have been? I also have badgers in the area as well as all sorts of other wildlife and while I consider myself privileged to share my garden with these visitors, I do wish they'd let me get some sleep! |

| | | Re: Noises in the night - what were they? Well most likely the noise is fox kits playing outside. They can really make a racket when they want to. Sounds like a high pitched kind of squeal, quite distinctive. |

| | | Re: Noises in the night - what were they? Mayhap they were barn owl noises ? They're also known as screech owls. I would so love to look out of my window and see foxes although I wouldn't get much sleep as would be watching them all night.

| | | Re: Noises in the night - what were they? Well Galanthus! If you really want to see foxes You are going to have to uproot from the countryside and move to the big city, as, it seems, all the foxes have. Here in Ilford, East London, the situation is very similar to that, currently being enjoyed on 'Springwatch'. |

| | | Re: Noises in the night - what were they? I did wonder about young fox cubs so perhaps that's the answer. Now shall I be pleased that my local foxes have bred successfully or just keep shouting abuse at them at 2 in the morning? |

| | | Re: Noises in the night - what were they? How about a frog that's been caught by a cat. They make one hell of a loud racket; a noise that you wouldn't think could possibly come out of a frog.
Cheers,

| | | Re: Noises in the night - what were they? Not every single night at the same time. That would be a bit of clever and predictable hunting by the cat! I suspect fox cubs now and will keep my eyes open. |
