Sika do also have white bottoms - witness this rather laid back chap we met earlier in the day in a coniferous forest and who was NOT going to hurry away for anyone, least of all a Sassenach woman with a camera!! Apologies for the grainy shots, it was raining at the time...
I love those antlers! |

I love those antlers! | Good pics. I hadn't realised how much bigger the sika are to the Roe deer, just been looking it up. Just discovered that Sika can be different shades as well. |

| | | Re: Deer ident please? Hi Chris. Nice pic.
Tips for winter Roe does & Sika hinds:
Sika have a black stripe around the white rump patch, (which is easier to see in their summer coat), & a dark stripe along the back. Also look for the light-coloured scent-gland on the hind tibia, which you can see in your 2nd pic.
Roe have a noticable black nose & 'moustouch', & white chin, & slightly different coloured & shaped rump patch, does having a fluffy 'anal touche' which can be seen in your 1st pic. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
