| | | Bat question We have lots of bats around here, I often watch them late evening darting about. They are fairly small so I suspect they are pipistrelle bats. My question is where do they go in the daytime ? Will they be in the trees or under roof tiles ? I really don't know but they certainly hide out very well in the daylight. |

In this country most Pipistrelle spring and summer roosts are in buildings, and mostly in quite narrow spaces. A favourite site is between tiles (or slates) and roofing felt (or sarking). They will also go under hanging tiles, or weatherboarding. Some will use the cavity wall at the gable apex.
Note the use aof the words "most" and "mostly"! You can find Pipistrelles (and other species of bat) in quite untypical places - they never read the books!
Pipistrelles can also be found in bat boxes.
