I have just seen a documentry on Red Squirrels by Bill Oddie at Formby near Liverpool, has anyone been there? info would be appreciated. |

I've been there many times. It's best to avoid busy times when all you're likely to see are family groups with 4 kids and 2 dogs running about the woods.
Go "off peak" and you're almost guarenteed to see the little critters...

I have been to Scotland many times and seen many Red Squirrels but they have never been confiding enough to get an image like that. Nice one.

Brilliant photo Oy - then only place I remember seeing them outside of the Scottish Highlands was in Kelling woods in North Norfolk, but that was well over 20 years ago, I wonder if they still exist there? does anyone know? |

I've been to Formby Point a few times, but never seen the red squirrels. I usually park at the National Trust site, but as Oy mentioned, it can get very busy (1000+ of cars?) during some weekends and school holidays.
It's quite an unusual place with a massive flat beach backed by huge sanddunes and a pine woodland, and quite a variety of wildlife. | | | |
