| | Help needed re: 2 silvery leaf lichens Good Morning!
Can anyone help me to I.D these lovely lichens. the compact leaf lichen is on a log, maybe Oak as it was at the side of a mature Oak tree. the log was completey covered.
The very tiny leafed lichen..silvery with little red top was growing on the top of an old tree trunk, again, I'm not too sure of the tree as it is pretty well far gone! The red top couldn't be seen by MY eye sight...only noticed it when the photo was enlarged.
Many thanks for any help,
Jean

Your first lichen is Parmelia sulcata (with patches of soredia, P. saxatilis is very similar but has isidia).
Second is one of the red-fruited Cladonia's - probably C. polydactyla but for a definite ID you need AlanS! |

| | | Re: Help needed re: 2 silvery leaf lichens Yes, I agree with Jenny.
The first photograph is Parmela sulcata.
The second is mostly Cladonia polydactyla, but in the right-hand half of the picture there is a group of narrow, cylindrical podetia, with what look like button-like red apothecia at their tips. They might be part of the variation of the C. polydactyla, but more likely, I thnk, they are C. macilenta.

| | | Re: Help needed re: 2 silvery leaf lichens Many Thanks Alan for your help re: I.D of my two postings, very interesting info. I'm very pleased to be able to put a name to these...and finally put them into my Gallery, with help of course. Jenny did say you would be needed on this one for a definite I.D. So thanks once again to you both!
Regards,
Jean
