Scottish Highlands--found these today in a stone heap and I would really appreciate help with id
1 I think this is might be c.scabriuscula



2 I have no idea...Its quite small.. difficult to tell scale (perhaps a coin next time) and seems to have pink "stems" and many tiny white budlike structures.
I wish the pic was clearer but its at the limit for the lens of my camera.

At the risk of being berated (actually far more like gently chided ) by AlanS for my ignorance, I'd suggest a Stereocaulon species, vesuvianum is the most widespread. Jenny S has some illustrations.

Had a look at some illustrations on the net. I think you are right about stereocaulon for 2 Thanks a lot
