| | | Re: collins guide The Collins Guide to the Ferns Mosses and Lichens of Britain and Northern and Central Europe, by Hans Martin Jahns, a 1983 translation of a German book, is quite useful, but long out of print and difficult and (I understand) expensive to obtain.
Just under 300 species are photographed, though some are poorly printed and a few are of very dubious identity. It is valuable for species, generally rare in Brtiain (or not British at all), that are not in Dobson.
It is also now very out of date.
I am glad I have a copy (bought when it first came out, which dates me a little), but it isn't in my priority pile of lichen reference books. On the other hand, I do include it in the standard references I cite for each species on my website. (Several more standard references to add, when/if I get time).
Dobson is so much better ...

But ... you have to have £100 to spare, and be able to read Spanish.
