This lichen was found among the heather on Headon Hill, IoW, yesterday. It feels like a very 'crisp' sponge, intricately branched, and in some photos there appear to be apertures at the branches suggesting a hollow interior..
My guess is Cladonia portentosa - does that seem reasonable?

Yes, definitely Cladonia portentosa and good photographs of characteristic material.

It was interesting to see how the thallus seemed to have 'anchored' itself by growing around the heather, although it may also have been attached to something underneath,
