| | | Green Lichen for ID Please - South Downs I think this is Pixie Cup Lichen, sorry don't know the latin name, but would appreciate confirmation, and also some idea of how common this is, I have never seen it before but it looks great, found at the base of an oak on the South Downs this morning.

Cladonia chlorophaea is a difficult aggregate of probably separate species and so very variable, but these photographs belong somewhere in that aggregate. C. polydactyla does not form neat 'pixie cups'. For a splendid photograph of C. polydactyla, see FungiJohn's recent 'Some Lichen from Scotland' thread. The pixie cups in that same photo are C. diversa and C. fimbriata.
