| | | Lichen growing on soil Hi all,
I was pottering around my garden yesterday and spotted this little lichen growing in my blueberry bush pot. I have had a flick through my lichen book and thought it looked a bit like Lichenomphalia hudsoniana although its lacking a fruiting body at the moment. Any thoughts?

| | | Re: Lichen growing on soil Looks to me to be one of the Marchantiales species.
The raised air pores on the upper surface of the thallus suggest possibility of Preissia quadrata - Narrow Mushroom Headed Liverwort.
The pores on your examples look somewhat different to those i've seen on Marchantia polymorpha. Also, there is no sign of black midrib on your pics.
Not by any means certain, just a suggestion.
Regards,
Mike.

Regards,
Mike. | Yes, this is Marchantia polymorpha, but subspecies ruderalis, which comonly lacks the dark line. This subspecies is a locally frequent and sometimes rather ephemeral colonist of bare earth in gardens.
