| | | Cornwall and Dorset Lichen Hi all
I'm always fascinated by Lichen and now more so by the content / contribution to the Lichen subsite.
I'll be in Cornwall and Dorset over the next couple of weeks and will try to record species I come across.
Are there any species I should particularly look for or that would be of interest to others?
They will be a few fungi too

There's loads of good stuff in the SW. On twigs look for the Usnea with large disc-like apothecia: should be a good variety of different species. Also good variety of Ramalina in the same locations.
The lichen holy grail is Teleoschistes flavicans, golden-hair lichen. It's on the Scillies, but not sure if any extant elsewhere in the SW.
Also plenty along rocky seashores, lime-rich rocks in Dorset, and probably unusual ones of mineral spoil heaps in Cornwall.
Have a good time.

| | | Re: Cornwall and Dorset Lichen . . . and don't forget David Hawksworth's speciality - the lichenicolous fungi
see: http://www.botanicgardens.ie/herb/census/cclichol.pdf - I remember getting very excited when I found Cornutispora lichenicola, with its distinctive Y -shaped conidia on Parmelia caperata . . . .
a lot of these will occur in the SW
have fun
Chris
