| | | Lichens for beginners, meeting on Sunday near Glasgow Just in case anyone reading this forum is local to Renfrewshire and really, really (really??) has nothing better to do on Sunday (March 29th), I am leading a very introductory field meeting on lichens, gather at the Muirshiel Country Park visitor centre, above Lochwinnoch (NS312631 or thereabouts) at 10.00 am. Glasgow Natural History Society, but anyone with an interest welcome.
But all common stuff. The one slightly interesting one I planned was Protopannaria pezizoides, but I cannot refind it!

(still wondering whether the clocks go forwards or back this weekend, which is kinda crucial for the meeting) |

| | | Re: Lichens for beginners, meeting on Sunday near Glasgow Just for the record - we refound the Protopannaria.
We also found a beaver's den under the Rhododendrons.
(Well, OK, I do hold some slight doubts about this, but the 5 year old boy who pointed it out was very positive ...)
Got rid of the party in the early afternoon and was then given a lift by the ranger up to the old baryta mine in the Renfrewshire Hills. The rocks were blue with Porpidia tuberculosa, but it took me 5 minutes to find any other lichen.
After that it just got weird.
I am giving up lichenology.

| Oh tease of a post!
Any chance of expanding a bit on the weirdness - photos of weird would be really interesting too...... | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
