Unidentified Lichen.

Found a number of branches covered in this crusty lichen..

Help with the ID would be appreciated.

Hi Julie

This looks like a crust fungi or corticioid type species. You often find these when you look on the underside of branches / logs on the forest floor. These are not the easiest of fungi to identify and I wouldn't even like to guess what this is

Hopefully Alan or Ken or ... can provide more information.

I agree this is a corticioid fungus, not a lichen.

Not a group I know well and until I have a cut section under a microscope and have the various essential books set out, I don't even start thinking.
And unless I am seriously stuck for something to look at, I confess I usually don't bother.
