musca or sarcophaga sp.? i'd fairly confidently say its gravid.
apart from that idea i'm stumped 
as always, fantastic up close photo bruce!

It is Phaonia subventa a member of the Muscidae family.

woo, i got the family!  lol, its not that often i get these kinds of things right  especially with flies, which i usually cant tell apart at all (i was fairly confident this time though )
it is gravid isn't it dogghound?
BTW bruce, i've never seen any macro close-ups to rival yours , always a perfect angle, always perfect focus, always perfectly sharp, how on earth do you do it?

I really appreciate your kind and encouraging words squishy . However I think you give me too much credit - there are quite a number of WAB members who consistently post excellent macro and close-up work - a big thanks anyway .

lol, i'd definitely be on the wrong track if it was a male 
i think you should maybe join an entemologists society, so you can get your photos published bruce, it's always a shame when you have these fantastic shots and have nothing to do with them (except let all of us WABers go 'ooh aah' at them )
