A Bee question ???

While looking on another website I came accross a question that I've also wondered about.
It's about seeing bumble bees out at sea.

I've copied below the question that was asked (but so far hasn't been answered.) > > >

"I spend a lot of time boating around the islands off the West of Scotland and frequently see bumble bees, sometimes miles offshore, seemingly flying between the islands. I have often wondered if this is bees simply losing their way or are they going somewhere? "

I'd be interested in finding an answer to this as well

Hello zoed73,

A recent study by Newcastle University has shown that both Honeybees and Bumblebees can travel upto at least eight miles from the home nest or hive while foraging, so seeing them flying between islands is not out of the ordinary.

The problem with the Scottish Isles is that there are very few entomologists in that area, so such observations may simply not have been made previously, in that area.
