| | | Wasp, hoverfly, Butterfly & moth id's? I've marked this down as a Gatekeeper - Pyronia tithonus does anyone agree?
Apart from "a moth" I've no idea what this is...
Some kind of hover fly? (pretty small... at a guess a body of less than 10mm)
I "presume" this is a Common Wasp, although for a moment I thought it might have been a German Wasp, they're very poor photos! There's also no view of it's face
And finally two different flies |

Could be a Small Fan-footed Wave, Idaea biselata.

| | | Re: Wasp, hoverfly, Butterfly & moth id's? You may well be right from the markings on the leading edge, i was going
by position of dot on middle bar and way body protrudes from wings, it's a
difficult one, would have helped if it landed on a ruler.

| | | Re: Wasp, hoverfly, Butterfly & moth id's? The moth was on a slat on a bench (standard type of park bench'y bench) this might give a slightly better idea of size comparing it to the size of the gap(and then again maybe not!) My very hesitant guess would be a wingspan as seen in the photo's of 15-20mm
I've just put this photo on because I like it, not because I think it would be much use for ID! |

At least I know now to get a front on view if possible as I was reading that that is the easiest way to tell. Quote:
