| | | First Painted Lady Just seen my first Painted Lady butterfly of 2008. That's put a smile on my face. May there be many more. Anyone else seen one yet?

| | | Re: First Painted Lady Last year I saw my first one in early spring. This one was in my garden and the year before, my Mum in law had half a dozen visiting her garden. Hopefully, with the warm weather we may get some migrating up country to your neck of the woods.

| | | Re: First Painted Lady Been out and about most days this week Jules and no sign of any in my area so far. Did see a Small Tortoiseshell though just after I had packed all the camera gear back into the car to go home. I started to get it out and presto it disappeared.

| | | Re: First Painted Lady Jules - Since your earlier thread I've been keeping a close eye out for the Painted Lady. My earliest siting in previous years (Northants) was the last week in June, 2006. Nothing so far this year.

| | | Re: First Painted Lady Good for you, 2007 was my last sighting. I have only seen a couple of Whites and a plague of Ringlets, nothing else. Good to see they are somewhere.

| | | Re: First Painted Lady I had my first last Sunday, it was nice to finally see one again. All the 'aristocrat' butterflies seem to be picking up in numbers now, I've seen large numbers of Commas, Red Admirals and Peacocks recently with smaller numbers of Small Tortoiseshells.

There was a lot of rain in the Med during the spring which had a bad impact on breeding Painted Ladies which has meant there are fewer to invade our shores even when the winds are suitable. |
