Hi, can anyone help me with the ID of this little chap, approx. 18 mm long, found at a field/oak wood margin?

Cheers, Dogghound, that looks spot on - I couldn't ID it for the life of me.
Does anyone know if this is common, rare or whatever - I cannot find details? |

Hi
It has a new name (like lots of beetles nowadays - I wish they'd stop with it all). Anyhow - it is Stictoleptura scutellata as Dogghound rightly ID-ed it. And it is quite rare: Nationally Scarce (Na). Larvae feed on lots of broad-leaved trees (but esp. Beech) and they live 2-3 years before emerging. Adults are on the wing June-August.
It would be worth sending the record to the Longhorn beetle recording scheme run by Martin Rezjek. I cannot remember the address but google should find it.
