| | Two Spiders for ID please Two beautiful spiders require identification. If anyone can offer me some information on either or both, I would be very grateful.
The first was a really cute little grey and white spider only 2 or 3 mm in body length. Found during the day in a niche on my front door. Small messy web.
The next one was a much larger spider with a body length of 10mm. This one was discovered walking up my front garden path at midnight. Not the best photo because my flash went squiffy, so I had to use a torch
Many thanks. |

Your second certainly looks like a Steatoda nobilis as you've already labelled.

I'll find out some more on the Theridion sp; especially T.mystaceum. At least I now know what I'm looking for. As you can tell, I'm a total amateur when it comes to spiders, but I'm learning the more I find out.
I thought the larger might have been Steatoda nobilis as the pattern on the abdomen seemed to resemble one, but wasn't certain as I've never come across it before and the image wasn't the greatest. I've now found more info on it, apparently it was first recorded near Torquay (about 7 miles from my house, so I could be classed as near!) in 1879. Therefore, they are still around
I'll update the images. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
