| | | Moth ID please This moth was out in the most windy weather, it was still spitting with rain after a terrential down pour and thunder storm. Actually I was surprised how many moths were braving the weather - they are made of tougher stuff than butterflies! |

| | | Re: Moth ID please Thanks guys, I have just checked out The Mullein and it looks so different with the wings closed. That is a problem I have often as all my moths are active and not a bit docile after a night in a trap. Its a new one recorded in my garden, so I am happy - thanks . |

| | | Re: Moth ID please Flight period looks wrong for Mullein (April & May according to Waring), and I assume its not that different in The Netherlands! Striped Lychnis Schargacucullia lychnitis has a June & July flight period in the UK, and may be commoner across the Channel. There's also the Water Betony S. scrophulariae, which is only a rare immigrant to the UK.
Sorry to confuse the issue!

I noticed that too. Could the mullein be double brooded in Holland?

But the area they prefer - dune area and sandy ground which fits this area perfectly. Are we too far into July for there to be a possible cross -over period? |

Thanks for all the help everyone! I think that Water Betony S. scrophulariae is the better option after all . | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
