I can't stand them. They are so big fast and they have teeth like jaws. I also believe that they can drain a human body of blood in under 10 minutes  |

Don't forget that there are at least four other species of Tegenaria (saeva, atrica, parietina and agrestis) that can't be distinguished reliably from gigantea without looking closely at the epigynes or palps. T. gigantea (called T. duellica in some books) is the most likely to be found inside houses in Britain, but just because it's the most likely, doesn't mean it is!

We "re-homed" one Tegenaria gigantica male this morning, but also "re-homed" half a dozen of another type that had decided that our bedroom ceiling was an excellent place to live - these were much smaller and seemed to have legs that were all facing in one direction. We have almost exhausted our supply of insect change of address cards that we always give to creatures we re-locate!  |
