| | winter fly help! Hi all,
grateful for any help/steer with this, its got me floundering around fever flies ,bibio, soldier flies, and getting more confused by the minute.............not difficult.
Found yesterday at quite high level, about1200ft in the pennines, warming on gritstone rock, quite small, nearly housefly size.
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: winter fly help! OK, tough one!
How about something similar to Scathophaga furcata or at least a Scathophaga spp?
Just a guess you understand!
Cheers

| | | Re: winter fly help! Evening, thanks a lot Jason, a cracking steer.
Cant be certain of course, but looks very close to Copromyza neglecta from web images - if anyone can help nail that tentative ID, still grateful!
I must admit to not even knowing of these - they seem to be outside the scope of most ID guides - are they unusual?
Cheers
Ken

| | | Re: winter fly help! Could be. I'm not really up on these; there's a nice cheap RES key and these flies are active in small number through parts of the winter but despite that, I have yet to look into them with anything more than a cursory glance - if that! | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
