| | | ID for yellow caterpillar, please. I'm new to this and I'm finding the instructions very difficult to follow!
Do I have to post my image in the Gallery first, THEN put it in a thread?
Then will I be able to ask for an ID?
Simple answer, please... my IT skills are very limited...

| | | Re: ID for yellow caterpillar, please. You assume correctly, Gink. You've already uploaded, too:
The link to get the 'thumbnail' to show in threads is small length of code below the image - look below your photo here: http://www.wildaboutbritain.co.uk/ar...p/photo/183292
As to what it is, the general appearance and hostplant - bindweed - leads me to suggest a Plume moth species. Quote:

I've heard some rather odd examples of relevance called old-fashioned on countless occasions, but this seems the strangest. What's 'modern' then in permitting external links that eventually lose the aforementioned image and thus the sense of the thread? Sorry, Steve - I don't get it.

| | | Re: ID for yellow caterpillar, please. I think Steve was referring to the two-step process Jason, rather than suggesting external links.
Most people when they first visit probably expect to create a thread and upload an image as part of the posting to the thread, so an inline upload would be better for the user experience. Also as a newby the diffrence between Gallery images and library images causes confusion.
Having an 'upload image' button in the reply to thread box would be better imho.
Of course, once you are used to it - its not so bad.
Cheers,
Matt

You gave a good answer in plain English. I eventually managed to work out the procedure, but I was shaking by the end of it... I like your quote too, it expresses my feelings exactly!
I haven't posted on many sites, but this is the most difficult one to navigate... so far! |

I'll try the link thingy later, After breakfast my brain may work better!
Do you know which of the plume moths the caterpillar may be?
Do you know of a site that's dedicated to caterpillar ID that isn't too difficult to navigate?
I haven't got a clue what you and Steve are talking about re external links, so I'll leave that, if you don't mind.
Thanks for your help. |

Although these aren't particularly common and feed on Goldenrod....so maybe not...

| | | Re: ID for yellow caterpillar, please. Matt, you're very intuitive! You understood my predicament (re uploading/galleries/images) without me having to put it into words. Well done, Sir!
Thank you,

That's brilliant, thank you. I'll look it up later. Both the milkman and my carer are clamouring for my attention, so gotta go...
