| | | Wasp in house. Just wondering and also hoping for you guys and gals to mkae me look good to the missus, but on to seperate occassions now , over the last 2 weeks , we have had a wasp in the house...
Knowing nothing bout them , was wondering if the warmish weather has anything to do with things and are they looking for a place to nest?
cheers troops

| | | Re: Wasp in house. Queen wasps often hibernate in houses particularly in cool utility rooms, in curtain folds, behind book shelves etc. As the weater warms up they look to move out of the building to find a place to build a nest. They tend not to build nests inside the living space of houses, but will build them in loft spaces and wall cavities on occassion. The fact you have wasps inthe house at this tieof year does not necessarily mean you have an increased likelihood of the nesting in the house though. |

| | | Re: Wasp in house. Coincidentaly, I had one in the dining room last night!
It's not uncommon for wasps to overwinter in houses (attics, wall space, unused chimneys &c) - normally they would 'awaken' around March but it's not uncommon for one or two to 'awake' earlier - stimulated by light more than warmth, I would think? |

| | | Re: Wasp in house. Strangely enough there was one in the lounge window today taunting the dogs. After a while when the buzzing had stopped I found it tucked up in the top corner of the reveal having shut down.
A week ago I saw a number of hibernating wasps in the folds of a patio umbrella opened to air it. |

| | | Re: Wasp in house. I'd love to know what species of wasp they are WM! I know next to nothing about yellowjackets, but with the thorasic pattern and apparently orange-tinted antennae they seem somewhat unfamiliar. |

Indeed, they look like a Polistes species, was this in Britain? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
