| | | Carpet beetles Just had my first enquiry about carpet beetles ( Anthrenus verbasci, A. scrophularia and other Anthrenus and Attagenus spp.). People often mistake them for ladybirds, for some reason. This is the time of year when the adults emerge or become active.
I've never seen much damage done to them except to insect collections .... but was a bit disconcerted at one pest control site suggesting that they might spread anthrax! Carpet Beetle - Attack Pest Control.
Good picture of an American species at: carpet beetle - Anthrenus flavipes - BugGuide.Net

| | | Re: Carpet beetles I tend to find these a little too frequently. For some reason I nearly always find the larvae halfway up walls - not quite sure what they are after |

| | | Re: Carpet beetles I've found a few adults recently; they were really tiny, but I know what i'm looking for as I had them in my old flat too!! I would have thought i'd brought them with me here but I first saw one larvae as soon as we moved in before ANY of our stuff had come in! I cleaned everything we had before leaving old place. it was just a few carpet beetles there, never found the source, although noticed some in old light fitting, behind the switch so obviously in the flat itself. This house was really, really dirty. Have replaced everything tho - new kitchen, all new carpet and flooring so goodness knows where these are coming from. My hubby went in loft and saw about 5 old wasps nests which have now been removed. I saw one very near the skirting board with gap underneath so may have come from there. Is it normal to find a "few". I have been looking specifically for them, I think I would have missed them had it not been for that as really, really small. Is there any good company that can find out the "source", rather than just spraying carpet, which is pointless when you know it's not brand new, synthetic carpet? | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
