Looks like one of them Meliscaeva things to me. Im never too sure what over-winters, but I suppose with the sort of year this has been I'm not entirely sure it matters!

Looks more like a Melanostoma to me with the black face and dusting on it.

Meliscaeva auricollis A female. The orientation of the spots and the yellow scutellum are wrong for Melanostoma. Females have the dust spots on the frons like this. They also are seen through the year, suggesting at overwintering. |

It is rather dark for a 'typical M. auricollis' but the yellow colouration is variable and early/late specimens are often rather dark; or somewhat silver. | | |
