Found this the other day just want to know whether people think its a harelquin or not? If so what are the defining characteristics?

Yes this is one of the colour variants of Harlequin Ladybird. Large size (similar to 7-spot ladybird), large white areas on the head. The two large red spots on a black background are typical of this variation.

This link will give you some idea of how variable they can be, though there are only three known variant types in Britain. A fourth exists on the continent.
