| | | Possible Eristalis, Long Eaton, Derbyshire 17.11.11 Evening.
This one has got me stumped, I presume it is Eristalis? Can anyone confirm.
Taken in my ma and pa's back garden, Long Eaton, Derbyshire on 17.11.11.
Cheers. Nik.

There appears to be a looped wing vein and dark hind leg. So Eristalis tenax is possible. |

There's also a hint of the broad black face stripe in the final picture, and I think (from memory) that the tarsal colour fits. |

That's fine, gents, thanks. Apologies for the lack of definitive detail, still getting to grips with the new camera and its various functions. Eristalis sp. is good enough for me, and I appreciate the pointers on what to look for on E. tenax.
Many thanks. Nik.

| | | Re: Possible Eristalis, Long Eaton, Derbyshire 17.11.11 The trick of getting identifications from photographs is knowing the camera angles which are necessary; and that comes with practice. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
