Possible Eristalis, Long Eaton, Derbyshire 17.11.11

This one has got me stumped, I presume it is Eristalis? Can anyone confirm.

Taken in my ma and pa's back garden, Long Eaton, Derbyshire on 17.11.11.

Not much in the way of fine details there I'm afraid.

There appears to be a looped wing vein and dark hind leg. So Eristalis tenax is possible.

There's also a hint of the broad black face stripe in the final picture, and I think (from memory) that the tarsal colour fits.

That's fine, gents, thanks. Apologies for the lack of definitive detail, still getting to grips with the new camera and its various functions. Eristalis sp. is good enough for me, and I appreciate the pointers on what to look for on E. tenax.

The trick of getting identifications from photographs is knowing the camera angles which are necessary; and that comes with practice.
