| | | The 'Active Winter Invertebrates' thread 2011/12! Morning all,
Well, it's that cold time of year again! Still, not all insects seem to be bothered, so lets hear all about the hardy ones in this thread.
HISTORY: 2009-2010, 2010-2011
Thanks!
Take care, Jason |

| | | Re: The 'Active Winter Invertebrates' thread 2011/12! Good idea Jason. As I write this, presently in the garden, there are many thousands of midges in the sunlight, varied species of flies, the odd wasp, spiders and a bumble bee!
Are you sure this is November?

| | | Re: The 'Active Winter Invertebrates' thread 2011/12! I'm having trouble believing it's November as well, I was out with a walking group today and the weather was glorious.
I saw a Red Admiral in the Findhorn Valley last Monday, and a friend saw one in his Inverness garden today.
I can't help thinking we'll pay for this good weather eventually, we've snow forecast for Wednesday.
Regards, Audrey. |

| | | Re: The 'Active Winter Invertebrates' thread 2011/12! A Red Admiral active today + stilll quite a few Bombus terrestris. In my garden while I was planting some bulbs I disturbed an Emmelina monodacyla ( have seen a few of these this week in different places). |

| | | Re: The 'Active Winter Invertebrates' thread 2011/12! There was a male Southern Hawker and 9 Common Darter's at Tucker's Bridge Pond (New forest) at lunchtime today (20/11). The Southern Hawker may be a latest ever date for Hants but I've got to get past Dec 8th for Common Darters!

I've never seen Southern Hawker this late in the year. |

I did also see two Red Admirals - one in next door's back garden and another in the forest. |
