How about Phaonia varium with that strong bristle behind the leg?
*I would await further comment before you claim the fly of the day prize!

I was just reading about them after you mentioned it, and it says they are quite 'nervy' compared to others. The one I photo'd seemed very friendly and let me get quite close. It never took off, just walked around, seemed quite docile.

You refer to reading about flies; what do you use to get this info?
Does the activity depend on temperature? Could a normally "nervy" fly be quiesced by a coler environment? |

I can't add anything here species-level wise, but would say I think it was taxonomically changed from one to the other rather than typos or whatever. |
