| | | identify beetle pest in house Sorry only have a picture of one upside down: PB150006.jpg picture by humanracer - Photobucket
Also we see little brown "maggots" too. We had a fly infestation recently too so no idea if the worms are larvae of flies or beetles!.
They are all over the house, kill around 1 to 2 per day. No idea where they are coming from. Landlord checked everything. |

| | | Re: identify beetle pest in house Try Dermestes lardarius, though you'll need to be able to see the pattern on the wing-cases to be sure. |

| | | Re: identify beetle pest in house Hi,
I'm with Jason about Dermestes, but I don't think we can identify the species. D. lardarius is one of the most common species, so Jason's hint is a good one.
All in all the exact species is not important to get rid of them. You just have to check if there is any dried meat in the house, dry cat- or dogfood or what ever is made with protein. If you do find anything like this contaminated with beetles and/or larvae, throw it away. If not, the beetle possibly came in from outside.

| | | Re: identify beetle pest in house Looks to me more like a mealworm beetle Tenibrio molitor, I can't see the clubbed antennae of a Dermestes in the photo and the and "little brown maggots" is a better description of a mealworm larva than a larder beetle larva.
Whatever they are, Klass's comments stil apply, these are stored product / dead dried animal pest, so check for old dogfood / cereals / a dead bird somewhere near where you see most of them.

Here is a better (and smaller) picture of the beetle beetle1.jpg picture by humanracer - Photobucket
I am at a loss to where they are coming from, they appear in different rooms in the house and never in the one spot. They is usually always just one and I never see two together. We keep everything clean and there is no rotting food meat. Maybe from the outside???? |

| | | Re: identify beetle pest in house Hi racer,
having those beetles in the house doesn't say anything about how clean it is. It is enough if there is a dead mouse somewhere in the walls or under the floor or whereever. This mouse is not rotten, but absolutely dried of. And beetles and their larva are feed by the dried protein.
I had it ones some one asking for those beetles and he was very angry about me saying there must be some dry protein in the house. I tol him what to do and where to look. After one week he apologized, because he found where they came from. They had an old dog, being very ill. And whenever this dog got it's food, it seems to be it could eat it up and so he stored his dogfood under the closet in the sleeping room.
The dog died, but what was left was the dogfood until the beetles came out of it.
As you can see. It's got nothing to do with your cleanliness, but with hazard.
Take a look around where the beetles come from. Maybe you can see where they hide. Remember: they can fly. And if they fly, they fly to the light. So by day it means the fly to the windows, in the evening to the electric lights.
Regards
Klaas
