There are quite a few known pattern variants and others might be expected from the combination of known alleles. The type species is
Harmonia axyridis axyridis which has a rather fine network of red markings on black but can easily be mistaken for one of the very black
succinea types. One other type (I forget which but it was reported here some time ago -
frigida??) has been found in Europe. There are also true melanic types; some of the patterns were published in
Antenna some years back but I haven't seen a comprehensive illustration. If you're seriously interested you should join the
