| | | Hovers still hovering for ID help pls Thank heavens for the ivy trees. They keep flowering much longer than anything around here. Today's queries are this, which I'm thinking might be Syrphus ribesii female, although I don't remember such a yellow scutellum or quite those markings on the frons, but perhaps they all vary?
And this - is it Eupeodes luniger again? My Janet/Geoff notes include that females have a Y shaped extension to the frons, but I don't remember the slight Y repeat? Thanks as ever! |

| | | Re: Hovers still hovering for ID help pls Syrphus ribesii female is correct, females of this species have yellow hind femora.
Eupeodes luniger female is correct too. Spots don't reach the sides. The frons markings are variable, yours looks like it's been rubbing it's head in the dirt.
