| | | Dragonfly ID Hi
I'm thinking that these 2 dragonfly's are 'red veined Darters' but I was wondering if someone could confirm this?
Cheers

| | | Re: Dragonfly ID You probably need a real expert for a definite confirmation.
However, in the meantime. Eyes are blue underneath (but I'm not totally sure about your male). The black line across the frons runs down the sides (as far as I can see). Pale yellow wing spot with strong black edge. Pale stripes down the legs (not sure about the male from that angle).
So all in all, I would agree with you. Certainly the female. |

| | | Re: Dragonfly ID Yes - they are both Red-veined Darters. A nice find in a year where they've not been overabundant in the UK. |

Thanks for the clarification!
Unfortunately I didn't find these in the UK (I should have mentioned this in my post), I find that this is the best website for ID help and it didn't even occur to me that these photos weren't taken in the UK; I hope that I haven't broken any rules and if I have I apologise!
These were taken in southern Turkey.
I have real trouble finding dragonfly's to photograph eve in the height of the season, if anyone could offer tips I would be very grateful (currently in north hertfordshire)
Thanks

| | Re: Dragonfly ID Hi Dan- I did wonder whether these were taken overseas, though there have been a few recent migrants turning up here.
Though this site is primarily for UK wildlife I'm sure there are quite a few of us who enjoy the challenge of identifying some from farther afield. Don't apologise about posting here- only the most ardent purist will be perturbed. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
