Unidentified bug

I hope someone can help me, I found a bug whilst planting in a woodland area recently. It was about 3cm long, < .5 cm wide, was principally white (quite bright) with black 'saddle-like' markings at regular intervals down the length of its body. It had earwig like pincers at its head (same size/shape as an earwigs) it was an attractive little thing and I really hope someone can help me ID it. I was told it could be a glow worm, but after looking at pictures of these, it really looks very little like it!

What you have seen sounds like a beetle larva, the description sounds good.

Have a search through the Gallery, you might spot what you saw (there are pics of glow worm larvae in there).
