Jumping fly for ID please
This little fella (just over a centimetre in length), jumped about 15 cms at a time, and also ran very fast. Occasionally it waggled its wings, independantly of one another. Seen at Dawlish Warren today.

That's a Rhinophorid, I think the generic English name is something like Woodlouse Fly.

Was what I saw normal behaviour?

I assume it can fly, but it didn't whilst I was watching it.

Yes, wing-flicking is often reported - certainly done when I see them. I assume the 6in jumps were short bursts of flight
