| | | ID help please Hi everyone, I've recently found an awful lot of little black bugs in the bale of hay I use for my rabbits. Normally I'd just throw the hay out (which I've done) and that would be the end of it but these bugs are getting everywhere! I've just moved and had to store the animal supplies in the garage along with boxes and furniture, now the little blighters are on a sofa bed among other things.
I need to find out how to get rid of them, especially as my boyfriend just found one in the house! But I need to know what I'm dealing with before I know how to deal with them.
I've tried to get a decent picture of them but they're so small I've had real trouble getting them in focus. These are the ones I managed to get.
I think they're the same ones I found in a previous bale which I did get a good photo of. I didn't have a problem getting rid of then because the hay was in a shed and I could just bleach everything.
Has anyone got any ideas?

Not certain due to small size in images, but I'd suggest they're just common Book-lice. The second image looks like a Spider-beetle.
Neither are harmful in themselves. |

| | | Re: ID help please Thanks for the reply Jason. If they are booklice what would the 'babies' look like?
I have a bin that I temporarily stored some of the infested hay in and I've just been to have a look in it. There are lots of varying sizes of light coloured sort of transparent ones in there, smaller than the black ones.
Any ideas on how to get rid of them from the garage as I'd like to be able to bring some of my stuff indoors, but can't bear the thought of bringing these crawlies into the house. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
