| | | Yellow wormlike larva For the last 3 years I have had a sort of larder fly/beetle preceded by a yellow worm like form. This year once again I cleaned out my larder, disinfected it - removing all flour, rice & pasta products and only keeping canned goods and new unopened rice & pasta products- all flour products are in air sealed containers.
Despite this I have this week got another infestation of little yellow 'worms' - they only appear in the dark and I can't identify where they come from but I am removing 8 - 10 per day ...... any advice or ideas?

| | | Re: Yellow wormlike larva Not sure but it looks like a beetle larvae, have you seen beetles in the vicinity.
The experts will give you a positive ID.

seems to be the larvae of a foodmoth (do you call them this way). I don't think it is one of a beetle.

| | | Re: Yellow wormlike larva Foodmoth - I suppose that's a generic term for things like the Indian Meal moth, associated with imported pests of various dry foodstuffs.
As for this depicted individual, I suppose with the upper-coloured collar it's like the type you'd see poking their heads out of them body-wraps of camouflage. You know, clothes-moths in essence. |

| | | Re: Yellow wormlike larva Hi,
it is not always easy to find the right words. So I try, and I try, and I try..., but I can't get no... etc.
I guess Jason got the point. I meant the kind of moth living in grains, corn, dried fruits and similar. There is a bunch of species damaging different kinds of dried food. And I guess this one shown in this thread is one of those.
Regards
Klaas

| | | Re: Yellow wormlike larva Deirdre,
People don't understand Klaas, despite his excellent English. Your larvae seem to be caterpillars of one of the moths that feed on stored products ("foodmoths" seems like a brilliant d3escription). You will need to find the source of food, probably flour or cereal, despite your regular cleaning, and to keep an eye out for the moths. If you find a moth, post a picture and someone will identify it. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
