| | | Re: Ground Beetle for id Hi Guys,
Got a few the otherday whilst out and about picked up 2 carabids I had not seen before. Also got Typhaeus tyhoeus and Geotrupes spiniger/stercorarius havent had a good enough look at it yet to tell what species it is.
Thanks for the info Jason,
Wll have a look out for these two. It will give me a chance to try out the two weevil keys I have just bought. A quick question about weevils I noticed that some species look quite like some of the Seed Beetles, what seperates these look alikes?
Thanks for the info Klaas,
I will have a look for Ocys quinquestriatus where I work there is plenty of old walls to look for it. Sorry to be misleading didd'nt mean pitfall trapping for Ocys quinquestriatus.
I'm right on the door of the Peak District so will have a look around for these beetles when I get chance. I hear that the Amara species quite difficult to identify, is this the only species of Amara that lives on heathland? I will have a hunt around my local woods for the other beetles.
Cheers,

| | | Re: Ground Beetle for id Hi Rowan,
no, there may be others like the common A. plebeja and some more, but Amara infima is one of the smallest species of Amara, no metallic colour (dark brown or black) and has a typical habitus. So if you find Amara and let us see the photos I can tell if Amara infima or not. If not, I possibly can't tell which Amara it is, depends on what I can see and what species it is.
Regards
Klaas

Thanks for the info. I'm going out on the moors this afternoon, I will have a look around and see what I can find. If I do come across an Amara sp. I will post up a picture.
Cheers,
