| | | [ID] bright green insect with long antennae
Bright green insect approx. 1 inch, found on ceiling in 3rd floor apartment in East Yorks. It's been hanging around for a few days and my flatmates and I would love to know what it is!
Thanks in advance . |

It's one of the Bush-cricket species. |

This is a species that's recently arrived in the UK + seems well established in parts of the south-east, so your specimen may be a new recod for your area, so well worth sending your record with photo, date, location + finder's name to the Orthoptera Recording Scheme.
Nice find. It seems these chaps like taking lifts on vehicles which may explain the rapid spread for a flightless insect. |

| | | Re: [ID] bright green insect with long antennae Thanks so much for your replies! I've become quite fond of the little fellow now! He doesn't seem to have any trouble moving around with a leg missing, he waits it's dark then relocates to a different bit of the apartment! It's interesting that this species is only recorded in the south east so far, as I am from Essex and recently drove up to move into this apartment in hull, maybe he hitched a ride with me! Thanks again for your help . |

Thanks again for your help . | One was found in Nottinghamshire in 2007. There was a nice report about how these new arrivals are spreading in the Telegraph at the time. |

The records from Hackney Marshes + White City were mine, though have recorded them in many places in London since. A regular in suburban gardens now.
Last month I was beating some trees in Richmond Park + obtained both Oak + Southern Oak Bush-cricket from the same trees. I wonder whether any work has been done on possible competition between these 2 closely related species. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
