| | | Is this a fly, bee or wasp? This critter took shelter from the wind and rain tonight. I dont know what species it is, can't find anything like it in my copy of Collins. Can anyone please help with id

Look for an all black hind leg to distinguish this species from a few similar species. And yes they are very good bee mimics, including the buzz. |

| | | Re: Is this a fly, bee or wasp? I think this is what I saw and heard last weekend! It was stuck? in a bucket with a little water in the bottom. I overturned the bucket and heard the creature buzzing trying to escape. When it came out it seemed to stare at me whilst still buzzing before flying away at great speed.

It gets it's English name "Drone" because it looks like a Honeybee Drone (The male).
