| | | Re: Ichneumon or maybe Sawfly That's what I am too - Hymenoptera, Hemiptera, Diptera and Coleoptera. I have come close several times to specialising, but by first starting as a photographer where you photograph everything because it's impossible to make real progress with any one group - barr butterflies and dragonflies - the mindset stuck; I was too keen on most stuff. Had I begun as an entomologist in the first place I don't doubt I'd have been more focussed on particular groups.
As for spending time away from the OH - don't forget, most of the specimen work will take longer than collecting from the field, and can be done just as easily on a folding table whilst you're sat next to her watching a film... winter is a good opportunity to catch-up with them.
