| | | Indestructible insect - ID? I have just had an encounter with the strange little creature below. Sorry the picture is not very good, but I'd love to know what it is.
It was about 5mm long, and I initially thought it was a spider but the number of legs was wrong. It was brown with lighter flecks of colour. Its front two legs seemed slightly bendier than the rest, but that might be my imagination.
I found it on my person, so I'm afraid to say my first reaction was to try to kill it...but I found that it was completely resistant to any attempts to crush it. It also had a very tight grip on me for such a little thing. It is now outside, apparently alive and well.
Any clues?? |

It is that time of year when I'm troubled by lots of Lipoptena cervi in damp woodland near me.
As to killing them ,I normally roll them in,that works better than a splat I find, because of their flat profile.
