Thanks for the suggested id Katy. I took a look at your pics and they are certainly a very close match. I note you got the family id from diptera.info - I'll give them a try if I don't get a definite id here on WAB.

Hi Bruce, Katy got it right. The photos linked to I think belong to someone else.
The family is Opomyzidae. The spots match Geomyza tripunctata, thorax colour is variable. I've had all dark ones as well as with an orange thorax, not sure if age has anything to do with that. Diptera.info - Photo Albums: Opomyzidae
