Unidentified wasp or hornet

Hello everyone,

My wife had a bit of a fright as a very large was flew past here ear and into our kitchen. The body is about 2cm long with a 5mm stinger and a second probethis which is around 1cm long.

I have posted some pictures, although the qualify is not very good, but if anyone can identify my wasp or hornet, I'd be very grateful.

Hi John it looks more like Urocerus gigas.

Urocerus gigas a species of sawfly, which is totally harmless.

Thankyou for your replies. I have looked for Urocerus gigas and found much better quality images than the one I managed to take. Indeed, this is what we saw.
