| | | Can anyone identify this Brown Beetle please? Please can anyone identify the Brown Beetle in the attached photo?
The Beetle was coaxed in from an upstairs window of our Gloucestershire home so that I could take a photo, before letting it safely fly off again.
I have seen green beetles of a similar shape, but not a brown one. |

| | | Re: Can anyone identify this Brown Beetle please? Not a beetle, but a Shield Bug. This one is the Forest Bug Pentatoma rufipes: reddish legs and the reddish scutellum (the bright patch halfway down its back) are useful clues to its ID.
Useful hints as it being a bug: you can see membranous wings at the rear of the body (beetle wings are usually completely covered), the antennae only have 4 segments (beetles have lots more, typically 11). If you looked at this sideways on you would see the long sucking mouthparts which are characteristic of bugs. |
