Please can anyone identify the Brown Beetle in the attached photo?
The Beetle was coaxed in from an upstairs window of our Gloucestershire home so that I could take a photo, before letting it safely fly off again.
I have seen green beetles of a similar shape, but not a brown one.  |

WOW! I think it's a Red-legged shield bug-they usually live near oakwoods.A nice visitor.

Not a beetle, but a Shield Bug. This one is the Forest Bug Pentatoma rufipes: reddish legs and the reddish scutellum (the bright patch halfway down its back) are useful clues to its ID.
Useful hints as it being a bug: you can see membranous wings at the rear of the body (beetle wings are usually completely covered), the antennae only have 4 segments (beetles have lots more, typically 11). If you looked at this sideways on you would see the long sucking mouthparts which are characteristic of bugs. |
