Looks to me like an Ichnuemen wasp maybe Amblyteles armatorius but most are tricky if not impossible to ID from a photograph.

Thank you Johnny. I think it was about 2inches long. Do these wasps you mentioned sting?? I went in quite close with the camera!

If it was about 2 inches long then my species guess would be wrong... one of our entomologists maybe able to help more here, I think some of the females can sting But the large "stinger" is actually an ovipositor used to lay eggs inside a host.

It looks like Ichneumon stramentor male, If you are taking the antennae into account for the length it might have looked close to two inches, they are more like 20mm or less body length.

No, they don't sting.
