ID please
Some kids went on a bug hunt in my area yesterday (Dumfries and Galloway) and came across this. They got in touch with the local expert and described it to him (he has no email so couldnt see the photo) and he thought it might be a Short-winged conehead (Conocephalus dorsalis) If it is this is a first for my region, can any one confirm this? Thanks if you can help in any way.

I think you can safely say that is a short winged conehead female. The ovipositor hooks up, the wings are short. The similar long winged conehead has longer wings (not always a reliable character in that short winged comes in long winged forms!) and a longer straighter ovipositor.
