Black Beetle with Orange head
Anyone any idea what this bug is? Seen today in moorland on Islay, Inner Hebrides (along with five adders!) Thanks,

It's one of the silphids, but I'll leave it to a beetle expert like Klaas to take it further.

It looks like Oiceoptoma thoracium,a Red-breasted Carrion beetle.

Yea, I checked out silphids on Aeshna's suggestion and came up with the same one, except I couldn't find its vernacular name, so thanks both of you.
