| | | mini praying mantis?? Obviously it isn't a praying mantis, but the stance and formation of the front legs which are more under the body and point forwards put me in mind of one.
(Apologies for blurry image) |

Your "mini-mantis" looks a bit like this Damselbug I posted last year:
Here's a link to the forum thread: Large bug preening its antennae

| | | Re: mini praying mantis?? Yes from this I'd say a damselbug species too, that's a super shot Bruce, this is how I want my macro shots to end up like when I get more kit !

Wish I could afford more than a camera phone/digital camera to start taking some nice pictures. Was considering a digital slr, but have no idea where to even start.
Thank you both for your IDs

| | | Re: mini praying mantis?? D and John - Thanks for your kind comments.
D - It might be worth posting a request for advice in the WAB Photography Forum. If your budget doesn't run to a DSLR there are a number of bridge cameras capable of producing good macro results.

D | I have a Canon A1000is compact camera, which cost me less than £100 and it has a fantastic macro lens. It's been superseded now but I'm sure the new one will be just as good.
If you find a model you like the look of / can afford it's worth looking on a photo sharing website (eg Flickr) to see what sort of results you can get from them.
Good luck! |
